- The dependance on buying credit often led families to fall into debt as they could not make enough money to pay back the loans, explaining one of the main causes for the great depression.

- With the result of men losing their jobs or getting paid such a small amount of money meant they couldn't afford to provide for their families and homes. In some cases, creditors would repossess things as big as houses if they could not pay the mortgage, leaving some with nowhere to live.

- Relief camps only paid their workers 20 cents a day, and the government provided families $3-$4 a week. The only option they had on where to live was their broken down cars, in tents, or on the streets.
