  • The Process of Cellular Respiration
  • Man, I am so hungry!
  • I better eat some food to replenish my energy! The glucose will for sure give me energy!
  • Glucose
  • Inside the cytoplasm, Glycolysis will break down the glucose, and turn it into Pyruvic Acid. Since you body has oxygen, pyruvic oxidation now occurs. From here, the pyruvic acid enters the Krebs Cycle.
  • The Pyruvic Acid, bond with Acetyl Coa. This forms, Citric Acid. This process occurs in the Matrix of the Mitochondria. The Krebs Cycle creates NADH from NAD+, and FADH2 from FAD+. ATP is also created as from ADP.
  • FADH2
  • FAD+

  • NAD+
  • In the Krebs Cycle, the catalyst, CoEnzyme A, is used. The entire process occurs inside the inner membrane space of the mitochondria. The mitochondria also contains an inner membrane and outer membrane.

  • The outcomes of the Krebs Cycle then travel, using ATP Synthase to the Electron Transport Chain. With the use of protons, the Electron Transport Chain is able to make 34 ATP.
  • And that is how cellular respiration is performed!
