We didn't know where we were moving to next, but the Taiwanese government had offered to let us stay there for a few months.
We left with a suitcase each. All our furniture would be shipped after we decided where we'd live next.

There were government cars parked outside our house as well as our taxi.

Once we were on the plane and safely out of the country, my parents seemed a lot more relaxed.
Obviously, I was sad to leave China behind, but I also was excited to see where we'd go next.
And although I'll never forget the culture of China
The culture of Taiwan and New York City will influence me just as much. So, by leaving China, I'd go down a new path, and take new opportunities that would never have been offered to me if we'd stayed.
