Good morning, Grade 3s. Today we will be engaging in a fun lesson about food- THE FIVE FOOD GROUPS and the importance of those foods. before we begin our lesson, I want you to list the foods you ate before coming to class or day before on your whiteboards. remember it can be anything.
Now that you wrote the foods you ate before coming to class, I want you to read them aloud as I write them on the board.
I ate soft porridge, bread and coke
I had had a burger for supper last night
I ate pizza. I love pizza!
Yes, eating makes us big and strong
You guys eat too much! I am just kidding. Tell me, do you think is important for us to eat? What do you think the food you ate for breakfast or a day before do to your body?
The food I ate make me big and healthy
Food is important because it makes us healthy and it helps our body grow strong
3. Food groups are created by grouping together foods with similar nutritional value. There are five food groups namely: Fruits and vegetables, proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, fats and oils.

5. The five food groups are the healthy foods that our bodies need to grow and be strong. We also have foods from the unhealthy group and the examples are the burger that you mentioned earlier, pizza, sugar, chocolates etc.

4. Carbohydrates are also known as starchy foods. bread and pasta are starchy foods.

After the activity we will discuss and reflect on what we have learnt. with my help you will then create a flipgrid video telling us what you learnt about the food groups. you will use the cuts outs to explain your chosen groups.
I will play a video that will help us understand the food groups better and after the video, we will complete an activity.
