- "Have a good day, everyone!" Ms. Kinnian said. "Charlie, I'd like to talk to you after class."
- Climax
- "Charlie! I'd like to talk to you about an opportunity I've heard about that I think you'd find useful," Ms. Kinnian informed me. "It involves an operation, and it will help make you more smart." "Why, thank you for telling me, Ms. Kinnian!" I responded. "That sounds so good!"
- Falling Action
- "My name is Dr. Strauss! Tell me what you see on this board," Dr. Strauss told me. "Oh, inkblots!" I said."Think a bit more," he said."I'm not sure," I told him.Afterward, he told me I was eligible for the operation.
- Resolution
- "Charlie, the operation is complete!" Dr. Strauss excitedly told me."You can start truly getting smart!" Ms. Kinnian exclaimed.
- "NOOO!!!!" I wailed. I had gotten very smart over the past few months and had deducted that I was going to get dumb again. Algernon had died, and I had no way of knowing what my own fate would be.

- I was right when I thought I'd get dumb again, but that was about where my luckily-not-terrifying-twists-of-fate ended.
