  • Once upon a time, there was a king named Numitor who ruled Abolonga. His brother, Amulius was greedy and power hungry. He wanted to be king so he removed his brother from the throne, killed all of the remaining male heirs, and forced Numitor's daughter, Rhea Silvia to become a Vestal Virgin by locking her away in a temple where she was ever to worship the the goddess of the hearth, Vesta. Vestal Virgins were priestesses of Vesta, and were not allowed to marry or have children. According to ancient roman myths, while she was in service of the temple, Rhea Silvia became pregnant with twin boys by the god Mars. When Amulius found out about this, he feared that when the twins grew up they would challenge him for his throne, so he decided he would have to kill them. Since the twins' dad was a god, Amulius was fearful that he would be killed for killing the children, so he left them to die of exposure to the natural elements. A servant sent the twins down the Tiber river in a basket. Fortunately, the babies were found by a She Wolf, who decided to look after them. One day, a group of shephereds saw the wolf and the twins in the woods.. One of the shepherds, named Faustulus, decided to take the twins to his wife, Larentia and raise them as their own.
  • Why did you lead a band of thieves and steal from my land?
  • The boys, who were named Romulus and Remus, were raised to be shepherds and grew up to be tall and strong men. Eventually they came to be well respected among the townsfolk for their courage, strength, and honesty. During their free time, they enjoyed taking down robbers and distributing what the robbers had stolen among the other local shepherds. One day, during the celebration of the feast of Pan, a group of robbers decided to get revenge on Romulus and Remus by attacking them while they were celebrating the festival. Fortunately, Romulus was able to fight his way through, but Remus was taken captive and was brought to Amulius under the offence that he had been leading a group of robbers who had been stealing from the lands of Numator. Remus was then sent to Numator to face punishment for the crimes that he didn't commit. At that point, Faustulus had suspected for a while that the twins were the lost sons of Rhea Silvia, but didn't tell anyone because he wanted to protect Romulus and Remus. Although, seeing that Remus was captured by the King, Faustulus told Romulus the truth about who his parents were. While Remus was imprisoned at the property of Numator, he was questioned by him, and in the process Numator came to the same conclusion that Faustulus had.
  • We are going to kill you!
  • After Romulus heard the whole story of his parentage, he became extremely vexed at Amulius. So he decided to gather a band of his friends and go to Amulius to kill him. Meanwhile, at the estate of Numitor, Remus was released and joined his brother and their followers on their journey to kill Amulius. During the journey, Romulus told Remus the story about their true parentage and Remus began to seek revenge on his evil uncle as well. So they stormed into the castle of Amulius and killed him. They also told the people of Alba Longa the story of what had happened and how Amulius had tried to take over the throne and kill all of the remaining heirs to the throne. The crown was then given back to Numitor. Remus and Romulus now were heirs to the throne of Alba Longa and would rule the kingdom when Numitor died.
