  • Let's tax whiskey!
  • LET'S DO IT!
  • Err, no..
  • GW
  • I refuse to pay these dumb taxes! You'll regret this!
  • GIVE ME YOUR MONEY
  • Please sir! Do not do this to me!
  • This is what you deserve for making us pay!
  • Alexander Hamilton wanted to tax whiskey, but George Washington was opposed to the idea. But the local government of Pennsylvania and Virginia supported the idea, so Washington told this to Congress and has them pass the law.
  • this is such nonsense! just pay your taxes
  • fine. you win.
  • The law was a flop because the farmers of Western Pennsylvania refused to pay taxes, and eventually rebelled. Farmers thought it wasn't fair to be paying for something that they were creating.
  • well done, gentlemen. you are dismissed.
  • sir, we have done what you told us. the farmers will now obey the law.
  • The first rebellious attack was on a tax collector named Robert Johnson. An angry mob of men attacked him, cut off his hair, and tarred his body and put feathers.
  • I see this as an absolute win!
  • The farmers and soldiers sent by George Washington had a talk with one another, but the farmers still refused to pay taxes on whiskey. Eventually, the soldiers tamed the hostile farmers and got them to start paying taxes on whiskey.
  • After the fiasco with Washington's soldiers and the Pennsylvanian farmers, all rebellions were shut down, and the farmers were no longer going to oppose and rebel to the idea/law of taxing whiskey.
  • Putting an end to the rebellion of the whiskey tax law proved that the government had a lot of power over resistance. It also showed that the constitution is much better than the Articles of Confederation.
