In spite of doctors being pessimistic about Gina's condition, Gina's mother made the choice to advocate for her and fight for her to be treated as equal to her peers.
As an educator, I should be encouraging to all students and parents. Like Gina's mother, I believe that each student has the capability for success and high achievement.
Gina had an assistant with her on the bus, in the classroom, and at home. As an educator, I should be welcoming and cooperative with the helpers that parents have entrusted their children to, as they play crucial roles and we can work together for the students' benefit!
Gina's mother had to advocate heavily for her to be placed in a preschool classroom that she knew would benefit her daughter despite resistance from the school. As an educator I should listen to parents as much as I can, as they often know their children best.
Gina's preschool teacher helped her to make great progress while she was part of the class. I should try to be like her and make my classroom welcoming for all students to grow, learn, and reach their full potential!
