Текст на Статията

  • Rupert really loves his country England. This line means that if Rupert dies in war, he believes he will be buried in England. He wants people to remember he is still English, even if he dies. He believes the piece of land will be claimed by England.
  • If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is forever England.
  • Rupert is describing his death. He believes he will be buried into the earth. He says he will be buried in rich dust. When he uses the word dust, he is referring to his body. If he doesn't die in England the soil will become richer because a part of England will be in it.
  • There shall be in that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam;
  • There is repetition in this poem. Rupert uses the word England many times. The repetition emphasizes his love for his country. It is not only a source of comfort for him, it's a source of worship. It makes the suffering he is going to worth it because he is doing it for England and when he dies he will die for England and be returned to England. Rupert uses England consistently because he is telling the reader that his home is England. Rupert misses his home.
  • The structure of the poem is Petrarchan because it has an opening octet and a concluding sestet. The rhyme scene combines Shakespearean and Petrarchan. The opening octet is Shakespearean and the concluding sestet is Petrarchan. "And think, this heart, all evil shed away, is the turn of the poem because in the beginning he was representing England in a foreign place. In the turn, he is talking as if he is back in England. He is talking about the after life as though heaven were being back home in England with his friends.
  • He personifies England as a woman that has an happy influence on him. He hopes it's everything he wished for. He will represent England in this war. Thoughts of England will make this war easier to bear. There is life after death.
  • A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds dreams happy as her day;
  • And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
  • He believes he will see his friends again. He will have a good time when he is in heaven because he will be laughing with his friends, he hasn't seen in a while. Everyone's heart will be at peace, because they are home in England. The only heaven he can imagine is an English one. The theme of this poem is about death and love.
