- As a boy in Spain, Inigo became a page in 1506 in the service of a relative, Juan Velázquez de Cuéllar the treasurer of the kingdom of Castil. As a young man Íñigo was eager on military exercises and was motivated by a desire for fame. He surronded his life about the stories of El Cid, the knights of Camelot, and the Song of Roland.
- While protecting the city of Pamplona against the French. Ignatius was hit by a cannonball in 1521. Bearing a bad fracture on his right leg. He was treated in Pamplona, then was transported to Loyola in June 1521. His injury became so serious that he thought he would die. He chose to do painful surgery, during this he read the life of Christ and the lives of saints. His attention was then focused towards saints.
- In 1539 Ignatius and his companions in Rome decided to form an everlasting union. They added vows of obedience to a superior, elected by themselves to other vows taken of poverty, chastity, and obedience to the Pope. In 1540 Pope Paul III approved the new order with Loyola as the leader. He devoted the rest of his life towards the Society of Jesus.
