  • "Betty ist lying on a bed and seems to be very ill.Because Abigal has given away Titubas´s name, the slave from Barbados is now being questioned by three men."

  • Hale, Parris and Putnam question Tituba about her alleged compact with the devil. It turns out that she did not want to work for him and expresses her suspicion that someone else has bewitched the children. Hale announces that they will help her to tear herselfe free.
  • We will protect you. The devil can never overcome a minister.
  • The three men want to know more about Tituba's suspicions. Hale sees her statement as a clue to clearing up the incident, thats why God will be blessing her.
  • He asked me to kill you, because you are a bad man. But I don´t think so.
  • Hale, Parris and Putnam want to know if the devil has ever appeared with another person, if it is female or male or even if she know the devil´s companion. Tituba uncertainly answers the questions of the three men.
  • Hale reassures Tituba that she has nothing to worry about as he protects her and the devil could never overpower a minister. He also admit that she is chosen to discover the devil's agents and is therefore an instrument of God.
  • Tituba tells angrily that the devil has asked her several times to kill Parris because he is a bad men. She doesn't see it that way and makes it clear that she didn't mean to kill him. She also says that the devil has Sarah Good and Goody Osburn with him.
