  • Treaty of Paris
  • Results of the French and Indian War: The British acquired more land and became a world-wide super power. The British also became resentful of colonial blundering and the cost of defending the colonies. France lost almost all land in North America and became no longer important in American development. The Native Americans continued to lost control over land in North America. The Colonists gained more land for expanding and gained valuable military ecperience. The first American hero was found, George Washington. The Native Americans also learned how to cooperate and started thinking themselves as Americans.
  • The Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris, France in 1763. France gave Canada the land east of the Mississippi River to Great Britain, and gave Spain land west of the Mississippi River, including Louisiana Territory. France only kept four Caribbean islands. Spain then gave Florida to Great Britain.
  • Proclamation of 1763
  • King George III declared that all colonists could not cross the Appalachian Mountains; it was their western boundary. This was to separate the colonists from the Indians and to prevent future wars and expense. This angered many colonists, especially ones who owned shares in land companies, such as the Ohio Company of Virginia. The Proclamation made tension between Britain and the colonies, which Britain then placed more taxes on the colonists for defending the 13 colonies, creating more tension. Indians traded with the British and the colonists and regarded them both as enemies. Colonists still migrated across the Appalachian Mountains anyway.
