The Squirrel and the Fox

- There was once a squirrel named Acorn, it knew the forest better than anyone there. It showed kindness to every animal, big or small, predator or foe. It was a rather peculiar creature, since it wasn’t scared of predators, unlike his other friends.
- One day, like any other, the squirrel was walking through his forest, looking for his dinner, when he heard rustles in the bushes. His tail spiked up in alarm as it looked around for the threat, when all of the sudden,an orange flash tackled him down, sharp white teeth furiously threatening him.
- Acorn shook in fear, as it recognized the creature: it was a fox. “If you’re lost, I-I can help you!” , he managed to sputter out. The fox looked at him, a hungry glint in his eye. He let Acorn go, and growled. “I don’t need your help, just give me all the food you have and I’ll be on my way now.”
- And so, the squirrel did just that, he gave him his dinner, and when they saw each other, Acorn would offer the fox his help, but he would deny it and act threateningly with him.
- Seasons went by, and the routine was the same, and food was scarce. Acorn needed to keep his food stored up to hibernate and keep himself warm and healthy. One night, the coldest and ruthless of them all, he heard scratching on the trunk where his spot was in, and peeked out his small head, only to see the fox covered in snow and as thin as he’d ever seen him.
- “Help me! Please! Give me your food, anything! I can’t find any prey to eat, have mercy!”the fox pleaded, almos muffled by the strong winds of the storm. But before Acorn could reply, a snow avalanche rumbled through the forest and took the fox away, his own selfishness with it as well.
