- Hello, my name is Ennin and I am a samurai. Becoming a samurai took a lot of hard work and required extensive training. We were taught both mental and physical techniques. Preparing for becoming a samurai took a lot of effort and took a long time. However, it was definitely worth it and indeed needed.
- Military Training and Fighting
- As a young samurai, I was apprenticed to archery masters who taught me mental and physical techniques. I had to practice until I could shoot accurately without thinking.
- Swordsmanship was just as important as mastering archery. I learned how to force an enemy to make the first move, how to stay out of range of an enemy sword, and how to fight in tight spaces or against more than one opponent.
- Sometimes during battle, we might lose or break our swords. So, we learned to continue to fight using other items such as metal fans or wooden staffs.
