John Lewis was an American politician and Civil Rights leader. Lewis was a key figure of the Civil Rights Movement as a chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He also played an iconic role in the March on Selma, which led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Locked in arms, these protestors faced outrage and violence form the local police.
Rosa Parks is famous for standing up for the rights of African Americans by sitting down. Parks is best known for her refusal to give up her seat on a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama to a white man. She was arrested for her refusal and her actions sparked boycotts throughout Montgomery. She became a iconic leader for non-violent protesting during the Civil Rights Era.
Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most iconic figures of the Civil Rights Movement. King fought for equality by promoting non-violence. King's "I Have A Dream Speech" is revered as one of the greatest in American History. He addressed 200,000 Americans in Washington D.C and famously desired an America where his children "will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
