- The three witches gather in a cave and practice magic. The second witch then senses Macbeth's presence.
- None of woman bornShall harm Macbeth.
- Macbeth dramatically demands that the three witches answer his question. The witches recommend that Macbeth instead counsel with their masters, to which he agrees.
- Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill
- The masters of the witches rise out of the cauldron as three apparitions. The first apparition of an armed head appears before Macbeth. It tells Macbeth to be wary of Macduff, something Macbeth was already doing.
- Thou art too like the spirit of Banquo. Down! Thy crown does sear mine eyeballs.
- The second apparition appears to Macbeth as a bloodied child. It tells Macbeth that no one born of a woman (everyone) shall harm Macbeth.
- The third apparition reveals itself to Macbeth as a crowned child, which disturbs him. It tells Macbeth that he shall be vanquished when the Great Birnam woods reaches Macbeth's castle.
- Macbeth then sees a vision of 8 crowned kings standing before him, all of them looking like Banquo. Macbeth dislikes what he sees so much he doesn't even want to look at it.
