Addie was having fun in a playground, but she didn't realize that she was sharing the playground with some harmful bacteria.
While at the playground, Addie started picking at a scab. The harmful bacteria that were on her hands were then able to get into her bloodstream.

Unfortunately for Addie, she contracted MRSA, an antibiotic resistant bacteria. She got so sick from MRSA that she had to be put on an ECMO machine. From the ECMO machine, she got Stenotrophomonas, a graham-negative bacteria that is hard to treat.

Addie's Body, before antibiotics
Before any antibiotics, the Stenotrophomonas bacteria in Addie's body weren't antibiotic resistant.
When Addie took antibiotics, the antibiotics killed a lot of the non-resistant bacteria, but the resistant bacteria survived, leading to a higher percentage of resistant bacteria.
Addie's Body, dose 1

33% Resistant
Addie's Body, after dose 1
After dose 1, the bacteria had a chance to reproduce, and the resistant bacteria are now encompass more of the population than before dose 1.
