  • If ever two were one, then surely we.
  • If ever wife was happy in a man,Compare with me ye women, if you can.
  • The tone of the story is more sincere as the narrator is expressing her love for her husband. The tone helps to give the reader an idea of how to perceive what they are reading. An example of the sincere tone is present in the line "If ever man were loved by wife, then thee." Here, the poet puts on display the breadth of the love she has for her husband. She is saying that if any man ever has been loved by their wife, her husband is certainly one of those men. In saying this line and using the more sincere and heartfelt tone she takes on, it gives the reader a clearer sense of the weight behind the words and the message she is trying to get across.
  • The turn occurs on line 8 and shifts what the poem talks about. It shifts from being about the wife expressing her love to her husband to being more about how she wishes there was a way for her to repay him for his love and to hope for everlasting love. This shift in the story shows a progression in the appreciation that she has for her husband. This shift helps the reader to get a clearer idea on the relationship with the wife and husband as it mainly has been about the love that the wife has for the husband. This line helps to provide more insight into how the husband might feel. This shift helps the reader fully realize the meaning of the poem, which is laying out how the wife feels towards her husband.
  • Thy love is such I can no way repay; The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
  • If there is anything I can do for you, do let me know.
  • Theme: True love lasts forever
  • Then while we live, in love let's so persever, That when we live no more, we may live ever.
