نص القصة المصورة

  • The Acadians were originally settlers from France, but they considered themselves Acadian, not French. They lived in Acadia, which is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I.
  • The Acadians were owned by Great Britain and were made to swear an oath of allegiance to guarantee their loyalty. The Acadians refused to sign it, but were willing to swear an oath of neutrality.
  • When the British captured a French fort on 16 June 1755, they found 200 Acadians helping defend the ford inside and were mad at the Acadians for breaking the oath of neutrality.
  • 418 Acadian men were brought to the church on 5 September 1755, where John Winslow, general of British Forces in Nova Scotia read them an announcement that told them to take whatever they could carry and leave Acadia.
  • Over 6,000 Acadians were put on ships and sent to other British colonies that year. All of their homes and farms were burned down and in 6 years, about 10,000 Acadians were expelled. The British hoped that sending them to English-speaking colonies would make them more like British colonists.
  • After the Seven Years' War ended in 1763, the British Crown decided that the Acadians were no longer a threat and gave them permission to return to Acadia if they wanted to.
  • The End
