- I emigrated because during this time period in my homeland their are no jobs and there is a lot of diseases with no crops.
- The decision
- Arriving in America
- Me and my family emigrated from Poland when our house crumbled and we all were starving.I felt like we needed a better life.
- Meat packing industry
- For the past years me and my family members watched relatives die to a disease. Also, my father lost his job due to crop failure. because this occurred, during the summer of 1920, we decided to move to America for a better life.
- Living in the city & Our polish community
- I turned 18 when we arrived at America, I knew right away that I needed to get a job to support my family. It was hard to find a job because i wasn´t a skilled worker at that time. After walking miles trying to find a job, I found a factory job.
- My life as an American
- I found a meat packing job in Chicago after days of trying to find a job. It is very hard and stressful and people are mean a lot. It also usually smells bad and is very disgusting. Also iv´e seen people losing limbs from the danger hazards spread across the factory. these concerns made it hard but i knew i had to do it to pay the rent.
- For the past few years living in america it has been hard but nice. I got married and we now live in a polish community. the name of the town we live in is called ¨pokoj¨ or peace in polish.
- My life as an american has been crazy. when me and my family first moved here, i was 18. I am currently 53. and it has changed a lot. from income to the amount of buildings and factories. things are now different.
