- Hi, today we will show you-
- -how reflex actions work.
- As an example, let's say you unknowingly touch a fire. Why does your body avoid the fire without any effort?
- Each nerve cell, or neuron, comes in three types: Sensory, Motor, and Mixed.
- This stimulus activates the nerves, small receptors that send information to the brain.
- When our hand touches the fire, the fire produces a stimulus- processes or actions that tell the body to make a response.
- Sensory neurons send messages to the brain and motor neurons create a response to the stimulus. Some neurons do both. They are called 'mixed neurons.'
- Reflex process:
- The stimulus reaches the finger, activating the sensory neurons to send the message through the spinal cord. The message is then sent to a motor neuron, where it gives your body the response to put your hand away. Reflex actions happen naturally as an instinctive way to keep you from danger. When you hear something, you tend to check in the direction of the sound, and when you get a cut, you quickly move your hand away from the thing that cut you.These responses are your instincts, actions or movements that happen without the use of the brain. They tend to happen faster than ordinary body movement as they happen without thnking and we evolved to have reflexes to keep the body safe without having having to take the time to think about what to do when our body is in danger.In short, reflex actions happen faster than regular body movement because time is saved by not having the brain to process the given stimulus.
- Reflex process:
- Although these movements are risky without the brain processing the information given, the compared speed of thes movements are what make them a good natural instinct.Hypothetically, if the brain's processing abilities were on par with our reflexes, the human intelligence wolud have much smaller limits, being able to think, speak, act and do other things with more speed and thinking.
