  • Shawn Gets Killed
  • The First Mention of The Rules
  • Will Meets Buck's Ghost
  • This event is significant because it is the reason Will goes on the elevator at all and meets all of the ghosts that he does, and learns the lesson that he does. (Reynolds 3-12)
  • Will Meets Dani's Ghost
  • This event is significant, because without The Rules, Will would not get on the elevator in order to kill Riggs, he would not meet the ghosts that he does, and he would not learn the lessons that he does. He also would have a better life, because his uncle, his brother’s friend, his father, and his brother were all killed because of these rules. This event is also significant because it plays a big part in power distribution throughout Will's neighborhood. Whoever just shot someone is powerful, but they will soon lose that power because they will be shot by someone close to the person they shot. This new person now has power, but will soon lose that power for the same reason. (Reynolds 30-35)
  • Will Meets Uncle Mark's Ghost
  • This event is significant, because it is the beginning of a series of ghosts that Will meets. It is also important, because Buck keeps telling Will that he doesn’t have it in him to take revenge. Each ghost has his/her different tactics, and this is Buck’s. In this scene, Buck has the power because he takes Will by surprise. Will was not expecting to meet a ghost in the elevator. (Reynolds, 74-106)
  • Will Meets His Father's Ghost
  • This event is significant, because it gives Will another learning opportunity. Dani asks Will what he needs a gun for, and then asks him what if he misses, and if he has ever shot a gun before. One might think that it isn’t very influential on Will, but he definitely gets uncomfortable. Dani has the power because she takes Will by surprise and is controlling his feelings every time she says something. For example, her retelling of the story of her death makes Will sad. (Reynolds 109-146)
  • This event is significant, because it gives Will another learning opportunity. Uncle Mark asks Will why he is here. He makes Will explain, and then asks him to set the scene, to play out how the whole thing is going to go down. Eventually, they get to the part where Will is supposed to shoot Riggs, but Will can’t bring himself to say it aloud. Uncle Mark has power because he is proving to Will that he isn't ready, and this makes Will feel small. (Reynolds 149-192)
  • This event is significant, because first of all, Will has never met his father because he was shot before Will was born. Just the fact that he gets to talk to his father is influential. Also, it gives Will yet another learning opportunity. Will’s father tells Will how he shot the wrong guy, and how badly this affected him. I believe that the guy Will's father shot (Gee) has the power here, because he will forever haunt Will's dad.(Reynolds 195-234)
