  • Throw it here Biff!
  • Ben: Is mother living with you?
  • No, she died a long time ago.
  • Who died?
  • Just let me tell you a story, Howard.
  • No but it's a business kid, and everybody's gotta pull his own weight.
  • In this scene, Willy relives one of his favorite memories of his sons and himself. Willy feels happy and nostalgic in this scene. Willy was drifting in and out of his memories. This was the first scene where the reader gets a bit of an understanding of his mental state and what he values in life.
  • Biff, you're going to go to that lunch tomorrow, or-
  •  In this scene, Willy was playing cards with his neighbor Charley, when he began to hear his brother Ben. Willy felt confused as he heard Ben and Charley at the same time. This showed again Willy’s state of mind of being lucid and drifting into his memories. During this scene, Willy became confused, as he was about to have an episode. Willy remembered Ben, while he began to focus on the struggles he had endured in his life.
  • She nothing to me Biff, I was lonely, I was terribly lonely.
  •  During this scene, Willy was speaking to Howard about a new job position, since he didn't want to travel anymore. Willy felt frustrated and left behind, while Howard explained how there were no open positions available. During this scene, Willy began to drift into his memories and lost his sense of reality. Willy and Howard had a minor disagreement, where Howard told Willy to compose himself. After Howard gave him a minute, Willy began to believe he was talking with Ben, asking how he became such a prominent businessman. Willy felt that Ben had the answers to his frustration and problem, which explained why most of Willy's memories entailed Ben when he felt like a failure.
  • Linda: Willy, come up
  • Yes! Yes. Coming! It's very smart, you realize that, don't you, sweetheart? Even Ben sees it. I gotta go, baby 'Bye! Bye!
  • In this scene, Willy was meeting his sons at a bar and was excited to see them. His youngest son Biff, was supposedly getting a job as a salesman. Willy was feeling very happy and proud as a father, because he had hoped that his son would get a job as a salesman and make a name for himself. Willy was lucid in this scene and felt nostalgic, but he was so happy, that he didn't hear Biff explaining how he didn't get the job. Willy was so focused on this dream, for his sons that he didn't want to listen to the truth that Biff was trying to explain. Willy saw Biff's potential when he was younger, but didn't want to accept that Biff really was an adult.
  • I can't go. I've got no appointment!
  • During this scene, Willy met his sons in a bar. Will went into the bathroom when he relived a memory of where he had his affair. Willy felt guilty when having this memory since, Biff saw Willy with his mistress. Willy was entirely in his memory at this point of the play and did not know what reality was anymore. He wished that he could stopped himself from having an affair, showing that he was regretful. He knew that he's destroyed his relationship with Biff, and it haunted him.
  •  During this scene, Willy was again entirely in his memory. He was happy in this scene as he saw Ben. Ben explained how he was leaving, and Willy said that he’s going with him. Willy felt nostalgic and believed by leaving, he could find some kind of peace. This scene showed that Willy could not let go of the past. Rather than moving forward with his family and joining Ben in Alaska, he killed himself in his memory.
