The next Estate-General will take place at Versailles
Where is everybody?
On the early days of the French Revolution, France's King, Louis XVI scheduled a royal session for June 23rd in 1789. The Third State was invited to a hotel for the assembly.
Too early I guess...
The National Assembly (Third State) was composed by 577 deputies who were invited to the "séance royale".
Well, I think this is a good place for the assembly.
On June 20th, the delegates gathered to enter the meeting hall at the “Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs”.
They found the doors locked and guarded. This was seen as a hostile act by King Louis XVI and his ministers. The real reason for this, was that they were three days early at the agreed place.
The 577 deputies proceeded to a nearby place, the Versailles’ indoor tennis court and started the session in there.
The Tennis Court Oath was written by Emmanuel Sieyès and administered by Jean-Sylvain Bailly. 576 deputies signed.
