  • September 15, 1862Confederate General Robert E. Lee positions his men behind the Antietam Creek and waits for Union General George B. McClellan to arrive.
  • September 16, 1862On the afternoon of September 16, Union general George B. McClellan sets his army in motion, heading east of Lee.
  •  OnSeptember 17, 1862, McClellan ordered his troops to attack. The Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest one-day battle in American history.
  • Do not retreat!
  • Fire!
  • Lincoln announced the Emancipation in February 1865, two months before his assasination.
  • The Battle of Antietam was a crucial Union Victory.
  • It also setthe stage for Abraham Lincoln to end slavery in the South.
  • It is with deep honor that we announce our victory in the Antietam Battle!
  • This victory is not only in the name of the Union, but also in the name of those who seek freedom!
  • I will keep up with my promise and issue my preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, but in order to be constitutional after the war ends, I must enact a Constitutional amendment to abolish slavery.
