- Yong is a boy in china in 1952 and him and his parents are working in the 5 year plan, to get china richer, after Mao Zedong took over China. Yong's parents were Mao's followers from 1943-1949 when he took over china. Mao took over after the dictatorship of Chiang Kai-shek.

- After the 5 year Mao realized that the country has no money, so he sent all of his people to farm. So he made the Great Leap Forward. Unfortunately all the peasants are being paid the same and most slack off and because of that 23 million people died.

- In 1966 Yong is all grown up and he has a daughter and in schools they are brainwashing kids to love Mao. They encourage the kids to report all people who are not faithful to Mao. They did this because Mao thought that the reason that the Great Leap Forward failed was because everyone did not think like and act like a communist. So they brainwashed the new generation to make them to think like and act like a communist. Those people were called Red guards.

Many took it too far and did the extreme and killed many people, just to show their loyalty to Mao Zedong. When someone was reported for not being loyal they were thrown in jail and some were put on stages where Thousands Of people would shout at them and the people would bow their heads and they would just listen.

- In 1976 China was behind in Military, Industry, Agriculture, and Science and Technology. so what Deng Xiaoping did was he was he fixed each one individually, thus The Four Modernization. To make China's Science and Technology better he sent kids from China to learn in schools of other countries. 40% of the kids went to America and they learned of democracy and when the kids got back they protested the government so that they could get democracy.

- In 1989 the protests went to Tienanmen Square, a spot with great history for example the entrance to the emperors House. The people protested because they wanted democracy. The people thought that democracy worked for America so why can't it work for china. The government did not like this very much so they sent their military in to end the protests but that ended badly. The Chines government thought that 250 people died but we think anywhere from 250-1000 people died. The next morning Yong saw what happened and he knew that his daughter was protesting and saw tanks go in to the square and to save his daughters life he stopped the tanks.
