- Call to Adventure:"Having seen death at close quarters, he knew that was not meant for him." Page. (48)
- Assistance:"To do that, you would need to travel through the mountains..." -Scorpion People Page. (53)
- Gilgamesh is dreaming that a meteor has hit the city of Uruk. He has saved everyone in Uruk. He is lifting the meteor. He woke up when he was carrying the meteor to his mothers house. That's when his mom tells him to find a friend.
- Departure:"But then the tunnel's entrance was out of sight and he plunged into unrelieved darkness." Page. (55)
- After Enkidu died, Gilgamesh didn't want to go through the same thing. He started to seek immortality. He would need to find Utnapishtim. He has the secret to immortality; as he is immortal.
- Trials:"The darkness had struck him blind and he had to feel his way..." Page. (55)
- The scorpions are guarding the gate/ barricade. They are letting Gilgamesh through to the 12 leagues of darkness. This is one of the challenges Gilgamesh will face during his quest.
- "What you ought to do is get married. Children. That's the shape of happiness." - Siduri Page. (60)
- Gilgamesh is walking farther from the gate. Yet he's closer to the 12 leagues of darkness. The gate was light out. But, the father in he gets, the darker it gets.
- Gilgamesh is trying to find his way out of the 12 leagues of darkness. The 12 leagues of darkness leads you to the Garden of the Gods. He will soon try to find Utnapishtim and maybe claim immortality.
- Siduri is telling Gilgamesh that he should have a family to be happy, not immortality. Gilgamesh doesn't want to give up so he keeps asking her where to find Utnapishtim. Siduri keeps trying to suggest different ways of being happy.
