- The Mexican government wanted to populate the territory they owned known as Texas. They hired people called Empresarios (AKA real-estate agents) to sell the land. Many Americans who wanted to own more land moved to Texas in hopes good income. These Americans started calling themselves Texans.

- Even though Mexico's requirements were clearly stated, the Texans didn't comply with these laws because they limited there freedom.

- In an attempt to maintain order, the Mexican army waged war with the free spirited Texans. Of the many battles, the most famous battle that occurred was the battle at the Alamo.
- After 13 days of the Alamo being attacked the Mexicans finally broke through the walls of the fort and won the battle. But this was only the beginning of a war between Mexico and Texas.
- Soon after Sant Anna had a victory at Goliad a surprise attack was launched by commander Sam Houston, with a war cry of "Remember The Alamo" Sant Anna and his men in were defeated within 18 minutes.

- Texas had won the war and so they became the country known as The Lone Star Republic. But the quickly applied for statehood in the United states and became a officially became the Lone Star state on December 29, 1845.
