- Lamb to the Slaughter is based in a home when it's not snowing or raining. The protagonist in the story is a 6-month-pregnant wife by the name of Mary Maloney. She is kind and gentle. Always trying to please her husband. The antagonist is her husband, by the name of Patrick Maloney. He has clearly fallen out of love with his wife Mary.
- After Patrick is finished conversing with Mary, she realizes he's going to leave her. Out of rage and fury, she tells him that she's going to make supper and leaves the room. She returns with a lamb limb that has been frozen. While Patrick is facing the other way, Mary goes behind him and strikes him in the head with the lamb leg. She kills him, and she now had to decide what to do with the crime scene.
- Mary didn't want to get caught guilty so she hid the weapon. She did this by cooking the lamb leg in the oven. As if nothing had happened, she makes the decision to leave her home and head to the grocery store to get some supplies for her meal. Following that, this dinner is served to the detectives and police officers who go to look into Patrick's death. The murder weapon is no longer on the premises and therefore Mary cannot be seen as guilty.
- I want some potatoes please, Sam. Yes, and I think a can of peas.
