- The three witches summon Hecate, who leaves as Macbeth walks in.
- Macbeth demands to know his fate and the witches provide him with the answer. The apparitions tell him to be wary, even though no one born from a woman would ever harm him
- He is told too that he will never be defeated until Birnam Wood marches to fight him at Dunsinane Hill, which relieves him, as he finds such thing as impossible to happen
- After that, he wants to know if Banquo´s kin will ever reign Scotland. He has a vision where Banquo and every Banquo´s descendants are sitting in thrones.
- He can´t believe his eyes, he is frightened, but before he gets to ask for an explanation, the witches vanish as they dance.
- Now Lennox enters and tells Macbeth that Macduff has fled to England
