- This battle started in Sept. 13, 1814 at the U.S. Ft. McHenry near Baltimore. The american fort that guarded Baltimore harbor, was bombarded for 27 hours straight. The attack failed, and On the morning of September 14th, the U.S flag still flew above Ft. McHenry. (This inspired Francis Scott Key to write Star Spangled Banner
