  • Halloween Around The World
  • Hi! I'm Marizza and this time I'm going to talk to you about how Halloween, one of the world's oldest holidays, is celebrated in different parts around the world.
  • In the United States, it's celebrated on October 31. The name “Halloween” comes from “All Hallows Eve,” or the day before All Saints Day, it is a traditional holy day for Christians.
  • We like to dress in costumes and tell tales of witches and ghosts!
  • Trick or Treat!
  • We parade from house to house, knocking on doors and hoping to get candies.
  • In England, Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated on November 5 and bonfires are lit throughout the country. Effigies are burned and fireworks are set off.
  • Designed to commemorate the execution of a notorious English traitor, Guy Fawkes.
  • Moving to Latinoamerica, in México, Día de los Muertos takes place on November 2, with a three-day celebration that begins on the evening of October 31. It is designed to honor the dead who, it is believed, return to their earthly homes on Halloween.
  • We construct an altar to the dead in our homes to honor deceased relatives and decorate it with candy, flowers, photographs, food and drink, and fresh water.
  • Ireland: In rural areas, bonfires are lit as they were in the days of the Celts. Many games are played, including “snap-apple,” a game in which an apple on a string is tied to a doorframe or tree and players attempt to bite the hanging apple!
