- Ingrid and Astrid are both very upset at each other. Astrid for her mother abandoning her by committing murder and being imprisoned. Ingrid for Astrid's beginning to disobey her and find who she is in the world. Ingrid want to control her daughter, while Astrid wants her mother's attention and love.

- Starr Thomas (Astrid's first foster mother) shoots Astrid in the shoulder, ribs, and hip after she finds out that Astrid was having an affair with her boyfriend Ray.
