What is photosynthesis?

I really thought you would know this one, Donald. Photosynthesis is the process plants use to make energy. They use carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, sunlight energy, and water to create glucose in the chloroplast. This glucose is then broken down by the mitochondria into Adenosine Triphosphate, or ATP for short. Photosynthesis creates excess oxygen as well, which is released into the atmosphere.

I have an idea. Glucose and oxygen are a created by photosynthesis. Glucose and oxygen are used in cellular respiration, which then produces carbon dioxide and water. Carbon dioxide and water are necessary for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis then creates more oxygen and glucose for cellular respiration, and the cycle continues.

That is exactly right! Both photosynthesis and cellular respiration are interrelated processes that feed off of each other and need one another to continue. This means that while we breathe, we are taking in the products of photosynthesis and breathing out the reactants of photosynthesis, meaning we as people are involved and connected to the plants around us!

That is cool and all, but what if there is no oxygen and the cycle is broken?

That is where fermentation comes into play. Fermentation can take place even without the presence of oxygen, making it vital to the continuation of the process we have been discussing. I have to go now Donald Trump, it is lunch time.
