Hey Conner! We were just about to head downtown to the barbershop, and maybe go to a restaurant!
Ok! I'll be right with you! I also have to go to the dentist so I'll tag along.
Black Wall Street after the massacre.
We're ruined! We have no home! What will we do!
All of our shops, all of our homes, all of our businesses, GONE!
I just came back from the lumber shop, and they wouldn't sell me wood! How are we going to rebuild without any materials?
Black Wall Street during rebuilding.
We don't have enough money for fire insurance! And if we can't get access to the law, how will we get the money?
I wish we had fire ordinance, maybe the damage wouldn't be as bad.
Black Wall Street was a thriving place for the black community, there were rows after rows of shops and businesses. It was one of the only places black people could go shopping at this time in history.
The massacre left the community in ruins, the white people had burned everything down and the black people had no fire ordinance. Along with that, other shops outside of Greenwood wouldn't sell them wood and stone to rebuild the community.
It took a long time to rebuild, and without fire insurance or raw materials, it was extremely hard. But slowly and surely, they got there.
