Macbeth hires murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to carry out the murder and he agrees, despite his doubts.

It is concluded. Banquo, thy soul's flight, if it find heaven, must find it out tonight.

Sc. 2

The murderers attack Banquo and kill him but Fleances escaped. The murderers report to Macbeth.

O treachery! Fly, good Fleance, fly, fly, fly! Thou mayst revenge - O slave!

Mabeth has a breakdown during the banquet when he sees Banquo's ghost. Lady Macbeth tries to cover up for him and dismiss the guests

Avaunt! and quit my sight! Let the earth hide thee! Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold.

HECATE

THREE WITCHES

Hecate scolds the witches for meddling in Macbeth's affairs without her permission. She orders them to meet her again for further instructions.

Sc. 4

And you all know, security is mortals' chiefest enemy.

LORD

Lennox and the lord discuss how Macbeth has become a tyrant and how the people are turning against him. They plan to join forces with Malcolm and English army to overthrow Macbeth.

Sc. 5

Some holy angel Fly to the court of England and unfold His message ere he come.

Macbeth invites Banquo to a banquet, but secretly plots his murder with two murderers he hired. Banquo senses something out of the ordinary and tells Fleance to leave the palace.

Thou hast it now: King, Cawdor, Glamis, all, As the weird women promised, and, I fear, Thou played'st most foully for 't.
