- Ponyboy came back late one night at two in the morning after hanging out with Johhny, Cherry, and Marcia at the Nightly Double. Darry told him to be back by twelve so when he was not back by then, he was super worried. In chapter 3 it says "Where the heck have you been? Do you know what time it is?" He was madder than I'd seen him in a long time. I shook my head wordlessly."Well, it's two in the morning, kiddo. Another hour and I would have had thepolice out after you. " (Hinton 49) Darry lectures Ponyboy and lets him know that she should have come home on time. This portrays a character vs. character conflict.
- Darry's built up anger becomes too much for him to keep in. He slaps Ponyboy across the face for missing his curfew. Sodapop woke up and looked at Darry in shock.
- Crying, Ponyboy runs out the door and is headed back to Johnny at the Nightly Double. Darry had never hit one of his family members before. He felt really bad and tired to get him to come back, but he was unsucssesful.
