- Mathilde wishes that she was not a ¨poor¨ women while her husband is comfortable with their living situation.

- I lost the Necklace!!
- Monsieur Loisel brings home an invitation to a fancy party to his wife so she will be happy. But, Mathilde starts to cry because she does not wish to look poor around wealthy people.
- Falling Action
- I hate being poor!!
- Mathilde goes to her friend Madame Forestier and to try on jewelry for the party. She ends up trying on a diamond necklace and falls in love with it.
- Resolution
- The necklace was only 500 franc!!
- Mathilde went to the party and had a great time but, when she went to leave she realized the necklace was gone.
- Mathilde and Loisel bought a replacement necklace for Madame Forestier. But, this caused the couple enormous amount of dept. Mathilde was forced to become the working women she never wanted to be.
- Mathilde walking through the streets sees her old friend Madame Forestier. She tells her about her losing the necklace and debt. Madame Forestier finally tells Mathilde that the necklace was a fake diamond necklace and was only worth 500 franc.
