- With the invention of steam boats, life became easier. These boats could travel upstream with no problem. This led to people and goods transported along the rivers throughout the country.

- Before the Industrial Revolution, people worked by gardening, weaving and raising small animals. Even though it wasn't easy, families worked together and were content on how they spend their days.

- As everything began to industrialize, jobs were found in factories and working in coal mines.
- The living and working conditions before the industrial revolution were overcrowded, poor sanitation, with wide spread disease and pollution. The cost of living was too high for people.

- As industrialization began the living standards improved, people were able to move to the suburbs to make a better way of life.
