- In the first chapter we learn a lot about are main character Pony Boy and his friends. We also learned about the conflict between the Socs and Greesers. Then on page 5 we see that Pony boy gets jumped by 5 Socs one being a medium-sized blond who pulled out a pocket knife saying there going to give him a "haircut".
- In chapter 2 Pony and a few other gang members go to the drive-ins. little did they know two girls who were Socs would be there. After one of there gang members,Dally, started being extreamly rude and disrespectful to the girls Pony and Johny stand up for them and Dally ends up leaving. Tow-Bit ends up joining them and they hang out with the girls for the rest of the night. One of the girls, Cherry then explains to Pony how not all Socs are the same.
- In chapter 3 Pony feel asleep at the drive-in and came home past 12. Since his parents were not alive his older brother Darry was taking care of Pony and Soda. Because of Poney's late return home he gets yelled at by Darry. While this is happening Soda is fast asleep on the couch and wakes up a few moments later. After arguing for sometime Darry ends up slapng Pony making him fall to the ground.
