- Father Abraham speaks to the rich man and explains that Lazarus did not have the luck or fortune of receiving the same gifts that he did. The rich man explains that he had the pleasure of living in luxury, and he could have helped the man residing outside his home at any time. This explains why Lazarus is a much happier version of himself there in Heaven. Whereas the rich man is paying for the time he spent NOT helping Lazarus.
