- As Jonas finally made his way onto the stage, the elder began to explain. "Jonas has been selected to be our next receiver of memory" The elder said as the crowd gasped. She explained the conditions of his job, and how he couldn't tell anyone about they things he did, and heo he would feel pain worse than anyone can imagine while being alone and apart from the community. She then said why he was chosen for this very particular selection.

- She spoke about how he has courage, intelligence, integrity, and bravery. He didn't agree with this, and he was still confused but continued to listen. She then told everyone that he has something no one else has, the capacity to see beyond. Jonas didn't understand, until he looked out at the crowd and saw everyone change. the same way the apple changed in the past.

- Jonas was confused as to why he of all people was chosen, and he was scared of his training after the way the elder described it. But then he heard yelling. "Jonas, Jonas, Jonas" The crowd roared, getting louder each time.
