- Matilda, what seems to be the problem?
- The next day, Matilda went to her rich friend. She explained her problem and borrowed a diamond necklace from her friend.
- The day of the party, Matilda had lots of fun. She was the prettiest woman there and everyone wanted to dance with her.
- When they returned home, they discovered the necklace lost. They searched a lot but ultimately decided to replace. It cost them 36000 francs which caused them to go into debt and have to make drastic changes in their lives.

- 10 years later, Mme Loisel meets her friend Jeanne again in a marketplace. Jeanne didn't recognise her at first but when Matilda told her her name she recognized her. Matilda decided to tell her the truth.
- And so to pay off the debts, we lost most of money and now live a frugal existence.
