- How many sharks do you think are in the ocean?
- GET OUT OF THE WATER!
- The story starts with a boy named Chet Roscow. He is finally feeling at home in his uncle's little New Jersey town. He has three friends, and they love cooling off in the creek on hot summer days.
- NOT COOL!
- We thought you died!
- But then comes shocking news. A massive shark has been attacking swimmers in the ocean along the New Jersey shore, not far from where Chet is staying. Everyone is filled with fear.
- How is there a shark in the creek?
- Chet and his friends decide to go to the creek one day. It's impossible for a shark to go all the way where they are. They started playing catch with a ball but then one of Chet's friends stops and looks at a gray fin going through the water. His friend goes under the water and Chet screams. A couple seconds later the fin goes under water and two of his friends pop up out of the water, it was just a prank.
- GET OUT CHET!
- A couple days later, Chet decides to prank his friends back. He went to the creek early to set up his prank. He grabs his coat, a boot, and a ketchup bottle. He makes it look like he was dragged into the water by a shark. When his friends arrive and see the ketchup they are worried. Chet pops up out of the water and scares them, but they are not amused. They had an argument and his friends stormed off.
- The next day. Chet goes to the river by himself. He is splashing around having fun and he feels something scrape his chest. His chest starts bleeding, and he sees a gray fin pop up out of the water. The fin circles around and is coming for Chet. Chet runs out of the water, kicking with all his might and he makes it to land. He looks back at the creek and a big shark jumps out of the water. The shark doesn't get far enough onto the land to bite Chet. It gets back in the creek and swims away
- Chet goes home and tells his uncle about what happened. His uncle went to get people to come to the river with their guns, and Chet went to the creek to warn people. Chet got to the creek and saw his friends. He said there is a shark in the creek but they didn't believe him. Suddenly a gray fin popped up out of the water. Chet told them to get out. They all rushed out of the water besides one of his friends. Chet dove into the water to save his friend. They made it out but the shark bit off Chet's leg. Chet's uncle and other adults arrived and shot the shark. Chet went to the hospital and survived.
