  • Edgar Allen Poe's word choice, tone, and mood are suspenseful. For example when the narrator was about to kill the old man we all knew it was going to happen but when it did we were still on the edge of our seats.
  • Simile, Metaphor, or Personification
  • In Tell-Tale Heart, Edgar uses a lot of imagery. For example, in this scene, the narrator describes the old man's eye like, " One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture - a pale blue eye, with a film over it."

  • Tell-Tale Heart has examples of all 3. An example of a Simile is when Edgar wrote: "Like a thread of a spider." Metaphor: " His eyes resembles that of a vulture." Personification: "For it was not the old man who vexed me, but his evil eye."
  • The two examples that we found of Idiom in Tell-Tale Heart was... "The man's terror must be extream, It grew louder and louder" Another would be "He was stone dead."
  • In the story Tell-Tale Heart, Edgar uses a lot of dramatic irony. For example, this quote from the story suggests dramatic irony. "I heard all things in heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How then, am I mad?"
