  • Romulus and Remus were the sons of Rhea Silvia, daughter of Numitor, King of Alba Longa. Numitor had been deposed by his younger brother Amulius, who forced Rhea to become one of the Vestal Virgins in order to prevent her from giving birth to potential claimants to the throne. Nevertheless, Rhea bore Romulus and Remus, fathered by the war god Mars. Amulius ordered the infants drowned in the Tiber River.
  • But the trough in which they were placed floated down the river and came to rest at the future site of Rome, near the Ficus ruminalis, a sacred fig tree of historical times. There is a she-wolf and a woodpecker - both sacred to Mars - suckled and fed them until they were found by the Herdsman Faustulus.
  • Reared by Faustulus and his wife, Acca Larentia, the twins became leaders of a band of adventurous youths, eventually killing Amulius and restoring their grandfather to the throne.
  • Romulus and Remus founded a town where they were saved. They wanted their own kingdom so they were both deciding on which hill they were going to put the castle. They argued about it then they asked the Gods which hill they were going to build the castle because their father is a God. The Gods showed a sign by birds going on each hill. There was an even amount of birds on each hill, so each of the brothers built their own castle
  • Remus made fun of Romulus's wall because it was too short he said "...I can go over it" Romulus got so mad that when Remus jumped over it , Romulus killed his own brother.
  • Romulus consolidated his power, and the city was named after him. Therefore it is ‘Rome’ not ‘Reme’.
