- exposition: the narrator moved to the US with her family, and ever since that, Cukita is trying so hard to fit in with the Americans. we also find out that the narrator's mother loves inventing stuff and spends nights inventing stuff and writing her ideas on a notepad.
- climax: the daughter had no idea what to write in her Teacher's Day speech, until a day before Teacher's Day. she found inspiration from a speech by a guy named Whitman. she started writing her speech, and when she was done, she showed her mother. her mother was so proud of her because she thought that her English was improving and told her to show her speech to her father.
- conflict: Cukita let her father read her speech like her mother asked her to do, and her father got furious and ripped up her speech because he thought it was disrespectful. Cukita got so sad. resolution: Cukita's mother helped her write a new speech that was written more respectfully for Teacher's Day. The father bought Cukita an electric typewriter as an apology to help her in making her dreams come true.
