- Before the Agricultural Revolution... people lived in villages out in the good ole' country. Families lived on farms and worked on these farms for a living. Sons helped their fathers in the fields collecting crops while daughters worked with their mothers inside cooking and cleaning.
- Industrial Revolution
- Factories went from being water powered--
- Things began to change... villages expanded and new inventions were coming about. To make farming more efficient machines were created by certain individuals. Machinessuch as plows and seed drills were made. These new machines took over and people were not needed to work on the farms anymore. There were now rich landowners who owned the farming land and got big money because of the efficient farming.
- Working Conditions
- People lost their farming jobs due to the newly invented machines and the rich landowners, so people moved to the cities to find other jobs. This is called Urbanization, where people moved to the urban areas from the country. People moved into tenements which are houses stacked on top of each other to make room for people since the cities were overcrowded.
- Smog and effects
- More ideas were coming into play and Industry continued to improve. This was the Industrial Revolution. This revolution was a huge change in industry. Instead of people making their own clothes and things they needed, factories with machines mass-produced these products for people. People who lived in the cities got jobs at these factories and also people worked in coal mines.
- -- To being powered by steam engines
- Working conditions in factories were very bad and dangerous for people. Many adults and including children were badly injured or even killed by machines it was that dangerous. Children were working in factories so they could provide money for their families. Children working in factories was popular because people believed they did not have to pay the kids as much money so they wanted to them working.
- The cities began to look foggy. This is called smog, which was a mixture of soot and other chemicals from factories. People's conditions from working in factories were not good. Survivor had black lung diseases and cancerous tumors from the chemicals and other things due to working in the factories.
