- Siddhartha Gautama was born during the 500s in Nepal. He grew up as a wealthy Hindu prince in a palace and had all the luxuries that he desired. His father was a king and he wanted Siddhartha to be a king after him.
- Finally I can find out what its like to not have a life with whatever I desire
- His father shielded Siddhartha from everything unpleasant to prevent him from becoming a holy man (spiritual leader). A fortune teller predicted that Siddhartha would either become a holy man or a king. His father did not want him to see suffering...no poor, sick, sad,or dead people, in fear that Siddhartha would seek out the truth.
- Siddhartha decided to leave the palace to seek the truth. As he was on his quest, he found an old aged man, a sick man, and a dead man. He was shocked.

- Siddhartha began hunting for the truth about life, suffering, and death. During his journey, he found death and suffering. He decided to become an ascetic to live a life like most poor people.
- Ever since Siddhartha left his palace, he meditated for a long time, 49 days, and finally reached enlightenment. He became deeply absorbed in meditation and reflected on his past lives. He became the Buddha.
- After being enlightened, Siddhartha, (now the Buddha), now began to teach people about what he learned. This includes the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold path.
