- The sugar act, the stamp act, and the Townshend act all placed taxes on imported goods.
- The sugar act placed a tax on sugar, coffee, wine, and cloth brought in from other countries. The stamp act placed a tax on legal documents, pamphlets, playing cards, licenses, newspapers, and insurance policies. the Townshend act placed a tax on items like tea, paint, lead, glass, and paper that had to be brought in from Britain as they weren't produced in the colonies.
- "I want to impose taxes on the colonists to earn my money back"
- The taxes angered the colonists so the king and Parliament imposed more acts such as the quartering act (this requires that British soldiers be housed and fed in public properties) and the Declaratory act(gave Parliament the power to pass laws on the colonies).

- Town meetings will not be held unless a Royal Governor approves.
